Romania had a colorful monarchy era that lasted from 1866 until 1947 when King Michael I of the Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen family abdicated.  King Carol I is well remembered as being the first ruler of modern Romania, while Ferdinand and King Carol II are said to be among the ones who led it through its most prosperous times. During this period, the royal family became intertwined with Romanian life and culture, especially in the late 19th century. One of the most iconic symbols of Romania's monarchy is Peles Castle, which was built by Carol I of Romania in 1883 and served as the royal summer residence for much of the monarchy's reign. Its intricate detail set it apart from any other castle in Europe, making it one of Romania's greatest architectural treasures. 

Today, Peles Castle still stands as a reminder of Romania's past and its lively heritage during its monarchy era.
